Site-specific installation at the SGR Galería Project Room and patio, composed of several building material arrangements, as seen in construction deposits in the neighboring industrial area, El 7 de Agosto. The gallery is located in the up and coming “art district” San Felipe, which has gradually filled up with artist studios, galleries, small bars, restaurants and shops. For this project, I used one of the cheapest bricks on the market, present in the gallery patio – covered in white- and throughout most of the neighborhood, used mostly to build in new rooms or make quick additions to popular housing. I also adopted the gallerist’s gesture of marking the bricks within his property by painting them white, including those which were now demolition debris picked up from the street. The aloe vera plant found adorning the construction deposits for good luck in business was incorporated to the brick and both were cast in white-glazed ceramic, a hyper-aesthetization of two popular elements from the gallery’s surroundings.
