This series investigates the canvas’ material qualities like flexibility, threading, absorbency and irregular edges. By folding and unfolding, the fabric itself is engaged in the process of painting, making me loose bsolute control of the composition and mixing of color. I format the foldings after found containers such as shoe boxes or buckets. The colors used are taken from the objects’ surroundings or are subtle variations of the fabric’s original hue. Using an approach common to sculpture which is primarily concerned with materials rather than narration, this process intends to explore the possibilities of painting as a spatial tool.
