UMBRAL, 2016

Umbral consists of car windshields, polarized in the different degrees offered in the market located in the San Felipe neighborhood, where the piece was installed for the first time in 12:00 Galería. The sculpture examines the use of standardized auto industry parts but also responds to the gallery’s particular architecture, a lengthy and narrow space that used to be a residence’s garage. This characteristic is also emphasized by the glass in a progression of greys, which stop being mere screens or viewfinders and show themselves for what they are outside of their functional context, the view blocked completely in the darkest polarized windshield.
