Doble desdoble, 2009 – 2014

This series investigates the canvas’ material qualities like flexibility, threading, absorbency and irregular edges. By folding and unfolding, the fabric itself is engaged in the process of painting, making me loose the absolute control of the composition and mixing of color. The colors I use are taken from those found on the wall from other works made at the same place by myself or former users of the space or are subtle variations of the fabric’s original hue. I take the existing wrinkles from packaging as a starting point for the folding or format the foldings after found containers such as shoe boxes or buckets. Using an approach common to sculpture which is more concerned with materials than narration, this process intends to explore the possibilities of painting as a spatial tool.
